Forty members and guests attended the Italian Evening held at the Club on Saturday evening 9th March. The bar area had been prepared for dining with tables attractively and appropriately set for the ‘multi-course’ meal.
Pre-dinner drinks were taken in the Memorial Room to the accompaniment of a medley of Italian tunes delightfully played on the piano accordion by our own Hon. Secretary Alan Roden.
A superb menu had been prepared by Tim, consisting of a starter of Caprese Salad with Pesto Sauce and Italian bread followed by a selection of three main courses Seafood Linguine, Lasagna and Mushroom Risotto accompanied by Antipasto Salad.
A sweet course of Tiramisu or Italian Pineapple Trifle was provided followed by ratafia biscuits and nougat bites and coffee.
As usual all was well served by Tracy and her helpers.
President Brian Arch bade welcome at the commencement of the evening and gave words of thanks at the close to all for coming, to Tim and Tracy for preparing and serving such a super meal and to those involved in arranging the evening.
During the evening a raffle was conducted by Kenneth and Annabelle Wright, who had generously provided suitable prizes sourced from their recent visit to Italy, which raised £200 as a contribution towards the new heating system for the Club.
Following the meal, entertainment was provided by the Abengarth Folk Duo (our own Vice-president Rob Hill and his colleague Goff Partridge) who sang a variety of folk songs both unaccompanied (acappella) and with guitar accompaniment and which included some highly amusing ditties to laughter and applause from an appreciative audience.
A splendid time was enjoyed by all.
