Twenty-three members and friends had a great day at the races on Thursday 28th February thanks to the excellent offer from our sponsors Wye Valley Breweries. It was only £15 for entrance, two free pints of their excellent ale and a race card when £22 is the on course entrance fee, without the other benefits.
We set out by coach from the lay-by outside the Crystal Centre to take the drive over the Clee Hills to the course. Shortly after the start everybody was served with a glass of perfectly chilled top class Prosecco achieved whilst hardly spilling a drop.
We paused on the journey on Clee Hill, which unfortunately was shrouded in cloud, to be served with smoked salmon and ham sandwiches, The salmon was prepared by Rosanne Norris, and ham baps made by Tim, our steward and another chilled glass of wine to keep us going until we reached the course.
We left half an hour early this year which enabled us to bag two big tables to have our drinks and work out our betting strategies.
The weather was warm and there was very little rain. There was some excellent racing and various levels of success at beating the bookies.
Everybody seemed to have enjoyed the day and we were entertained by singing from an impromptu SOEC male voice choir on the way home.
The addition of some younger members to the group also improved the experience and some of us remained at the club to chat and play snooker when we got back.
