The main bar was sufficient to accommodate all the diners this year with pre-dinner drinks served in the Cooper Room.

Paul Thatcher (Master of Ceremonies) was again the main man in charge of proceedings, calling diners to the dining area at 7.30 pm prompt, quickly followed by David Trewin saying an appropriately witty Grace.

The menu this year kicked off with a starter of Parma Ham and melon followed by a most succulent Roast Welsh Beef and all the trimmings.

The dessert of Lemon surprise pudding was topped off by Tim's excellent cheeseboard.

Special mention should be made not only of Tim for selecting such a lovely supply of beef and preparing all the dinners, but also of Tracey and her friendly and efficient staff who would have found it challenging to serve in the tight seating arrangement.

Toasts were proposed in quick succession for HM The Queen (Paul Thatcher), In Piam Memoriam Edwardi Sexti (Alan Cutler); The Club (Vice President Rob Hill); The School, College, Governors and Trustees (President Brian Arch): and our Guests (David Winterford).

President Brian Arch expressed his gratitude to all who had made the evening possible and detailed various aspects of the Club's progress over the last 12 months. He was delighted to welcome our honoured guests from their various roles associated with the College and the Old Foleyans Association.

Additional mention was made of Myles Manders-Young , the current Chair of the Students Union at the College who was given a welcoming round of applause for his attendance.

College Principal Mrs Remley Mann gave a very positive talk about the relationship of the College and the Club and spoke about the variety of new courses now on offer (and apparently they do not now teach Latin and Greek - what would RLC say?). She concluded by sharing the outstanding results the College students had achieved in the recent examinations - which resulted in enthusiastic applause - a credit to students and staff alike.

The concluding talk was from guest speaker Mike Penn who gave a "from the heart" account of his life as a football referee and related activities. This took in his various brushes with Paul Gascoigne and Bryan Clough as well as his more recent engagement with the women's football team and his praise for the work of Phil Neville. It was a very well received talk providing a lot of insight otherwise not realised.
