Snooker Summer League Finals - Wednesday 23rd August 2017

This season the Stourbridge Old Edwardian Snooker summer league took on a new and exciting format, suggested by the new committee, Harry Hall, Ed Davies and Arwyn Thomas. The decision was taken to go away from the A and B league format based on ability and bring in a handicap system to give every entrant a fair chance on winning the trophy.
10 players entered this year's competition and handicaps were apportioned to each player, some playing off scratch (0).
Most of the matches were played, with some shocks along the way, proving the handicap system was a good idea. Two leagues of 5 were played concurrently with the top two in each league progressing to the semi finals.
This year another new format was brought in to play both semis and the final on one night to replicate the twenty20 cricket finals day.
Ed Davies played Harry Hall in the first semi and Andy Pitt played Keith Cosnett in the other. Both were fiercely competitive matches but Ed and Keith both progressed.
The final was played in front of a small audience and saw some excellent snooker.
Ed Davies managed to retain his Summer League crown and make it two years in a row.
Thanks to all the competitors and the snooker committee and we hope that more people will enter next season.
