Wednesday,  December 6th was the date set  for contestants to "do battle"  in competing  for the annual turkey prize.  This year it was particularly well attended.
 
It is a competition like no other  where handicaps are awarded  by lot after the individual matches have been played and bear no correlation to players' abilities. 

The tournament commenced at 7pm prompt with everything to play for with two competitions taking place in parallel:

  1. For the eventual winner of a £35 voucher to acquire meat / turkey from a local butcher.

  2. A "plate" competition for the losers of the first round.

The final was won by Steve Ball who beat  Simon Tyler in a close contest  to win the Turkey / Meat voucher.

 

Simon Tyler received the bottle of whisky as runner up.

Chris Cowley (as usual) won the prize for highest beak (this time 33).

 

Mark Mees won the "plate" competition in another tight finish against Andrew Taplin and his prize was one of Tim's monster pies with which he was duly delighted.

Newly elected President Brian Arch presented all the prizes and took part in the competition himself. He quoted "Not having played for over twenty years, I dusted the cobwebs off my old cue and was drawn against the new vice-president in Round one, lost the game but not disgraced.  However in the plate I had to play Dennis Lees , potted the last two colours to gain some points but not likely to make the Club teams!
