ST. DAVID'S DAY CELEBRATION 2024

This year's traditional evening of celebration and fun was held on St.David's Day itself.

Nearly 50 members and guests attended this year. This included our regular Welsh contingent and others who have traditionally enjoyed the proceedings.

The event was held in the Edwardian Lounge which is increasingly proving its value in accommodating large events.

The seating plan (except for a couple of last minute additions) is included here for posterity - thanks to David Trewin for the production of the same.

Those attending assembled in the bar for pre-dinner drinks before they were called in to dine at 7.30 pm prompt. The table cards had preciously been prepared by Past President Rob Hill who was unable to attend. Please pay attention to the special wine selection.....

Mike "Dafydd" Lewis, as always, played the major role in organising the entire proceedings as well as significantly contributing to most of the entertainment. Members and guests were duly welcomed. Grace was said by President Clive Bowen-Davies, Toasts were proposed and various contributions were made during the dinner courses.

These included a witty story from David Trewin on the benefits and financial gain of "not rearing sheep" and various hilarious quips from Mike Lewis including the consequences of "an incontinent trapeze artist"!

Dinner comprised a magnificent starter of smoked salmon and prawn salad, followed by roast leg of lamb, and all the trimmings, topped off by a selection of Welsh cheeses and a fruit platter complemented by some tasty Welsh cakes and coffee. Tracey and the staff did an excellent job serving the masses.

Following dinner, it was time for the more formal engagements, led by the star that is Mike "Dafydd" Lewis who was on his usual top form. He was ably assisted at various times by Huw Jenkins, David Winterford (who led the singing of Green Grass of Home), Bob Lloyd-Jones and Chris Deacey. The Welsh National Anthem was sung with great gusto and thanks were given to those who had contributed.

Special thanks must go to Mike Lewis personally for the extraordinary amount of effort he puts into organising these nights and the entertainment - and of course to Tim for single-handedly preparing all the magnificent food himself. As usual, a very successful night which we hope will continue into the future.
