A well attended traditional Boar's Head supper (more than 60 members and guests) took place on Tuesday 23rd December 2025.

Special thanks must go to Tim for preparing all the food, Tracey and her staff and of course to Rosanne Norris for her magnificent preparation of the boar's head.

Past President Kenneth Wright had left various documents around the room including words for the boar's head carol and the story of how the tradition originated.

A sizeable gathering of members and guests assembled in the main bar and Edwardian Lounge and enjoyed convivial conversation over a drink before the main event. Immediate Past President Clive Bowen-Davies, meanwhile, organised the "Christmas Collection" as people arrived. As usual, no fee was charged for the event.

Meanwhile, the Committee had assembled in the Memorial Room where the boar's head and rolls had been placed.

Kenneth Wright called the attendees to order prior to the formal procession. In strict adherence to the tradition, the procession was led by the presentation of the pot of mustard (carried by Vice President Alf Edwards). The boar's head then followed - traditionally carried by the President but in this case our steward Tim carried the head (which was particularly heavy this year) as he was one of the few people able to carry it single handed! The boar's head carol was played during the procession.

Then followed the trays of rolls, transported by members of the Committee who placed them on the serving table near the boar's head before offering them to those present.

President Arnold Homer welcomed everyone for attending and the attendees got on with the serious business of adding various cheeses, pickles and trimmings to their platters.

Subsequently, President Arnold treated us to appropriate passages (including a poem from John Betjeman).

He then announced it was time for Clive Bowen-Davies to undertake the monthly 50-Club lottery draw which he progressed, ably assisted by Christina Edwards who drew the numbered ball prizes of £100, and two £50s. Clive reiterated we still have vacant shares on the lottery and encouraged those present to contact him if they wanted to join the scheme. Full details are on the website.

Finally, the President thanked all those who had made the evening possible and sincerely wished everyone a peaceful Happy Christmas and prosperous New Year.
